Electrically powered jockey pumps and fire pumps will draw water from fire reserve tanks. There is a standby diesel engine driven pump for fire hydrants, deluge system, and sprinkler system. Each pump has its own suction line from the suction header, and delivery is linked to the system. Pumps' function is to keep the farthest hydrant at 3.5 Kg/Sq.cm. According to fire regulations, the diesel engine driven fire pump must have the same capacity as the electrically operated fire hydrant / sprinkler pump. This pump is activated in the event of a total power outage or an electrical pump failure. The Jockey pump is used intermittently to compensate for hydraulic losses in the system and to maintain the minimum pressure.

System of Fire Hydrants:
The Plant must have a separate fire hydrant riser connected to the hydrant landing valve, as well as a fire hose cabinet with swinging hose reels, a fire man's axe, 63 mm dia canvas hose, and nozzles. A fire fighting ring main shall be installed around the Plant. External yard hydrants must be spaced at 30 metre intervals. At these yard hydrants, the necessary hose pipe and nozzle must be stored in a closed cabinet with glass shutters.
