The list of problems in centrifugal pump given below. you can use this for troubleshoot. this post is only for educational purpose, kindly refer your vendor document for field work.

CENTRIFUGAL PUMP TROUBLES DIAGNOSTIC CHART

Suction issues in Centrifugal pump

advertisement

1. The pump is not primed.

2. A pump or suction pipe that is not completely full of liquid

3. Excessive suction pipe lift

4. Inadequate margin between suction and vapour pressures

5. An excess of air or gas in a liquid

6. Suction line air pocket

7. Suction line air leaks

8. Air enters the pump via the stuffing box

9. Inadequate foot valve or partially clogged

10. Suction pipe inlet is not sufficiently submerged

11 plugged water seal pipe

12. Seal cage incorrectly positioned in stuffing box, preventing sealing fluid from entering space and forming seal

Problems with the system in centrifugal pump

13. Insufficient speed

14 Excessive speed

15. Incorrect rotational direction 16. System total head greater than pump design head

17. System total head is less than the pump's design head.

18. Different liquid specific gravity from design criteria 19. Different liquid viscosity from design criteria

20. Very low capacity operation 21. Parallel operation of pumps unsuitable for such operation

Mechanical issues in centrifugal pump

22. Impeller foreign matter

23.Misalignment is number/

24. Non-rigid foundations

25. Shaft bent

26. Rotating part rubbing against stationary part

27. Bearings worn

28. Wearing rings worn

29. Impeller damaged

30. Defective casing gasket allowing internal leakage

31. Shaft or shaft sleeves worn or scored at the packing

32. Incorrectly installed packing

33. Incorrect packing type for operating conditions

34. Shaft running off centre due to worn bearings or misalignment

35. Rotor out of balance, causing vibration

36. Tight gland, resulting in no liquid flow to lubricate packing

37. Failure to provide cooling liquid to water-cooled stuffing box

38. Excessive clearance between the shaft and casing at the bottom of the stuffing box, causing packing to be forced into the pump interior.

39. Dirt or grit in the sealing liquid, resulting in shaft or shaft sleeves scoring

40. Excessive thrust caused by a mechanical failure inside the pump or a hydraulic balancing device failure, if any

41. Excessive grease or oil in the bearing housing, or a lack of cooling, resulting in an elevated bearing temperature

42. Inadequate lubrication

43. Improper antifriction bearing installation (damage during assembly, incorrect stacking of bearings, use of unmatched bearings as a pair, etc.)

44. Dirt clogging bearings

45. Bearing rusting as a result of water intrusion into the housing

46. Excessive cooling of a water-cooled bearing causes condensation in the bearing housing due to moisture in the atmosphere.
